  About Us

Pieces of Silver import quality, silver jewellery from Mexico. All of our jewellery is at least .925 (sterling) silver. Some of our pieces have an even higher silver content.

Mexico is renowned for the quality of its silver and has a long tradition of silversmithing and design, dating back to the 1920’s. A large number of practitioners from the early days have earned worldwide reputations and their pieces have become collectors items.

Today’s designers continue the tradition started by people such as Fred Davis, William Spratling, Hector Aquilar and Margot de Taxco, to name just a few, and are producing equally inspiring and beautiful jewellery.

Our love of Mexican jewellery - indeed, all things Mexican - grew from a holiday spent exploring the central and southern areas of this vast and varied land. We were struck by the unique beauty of the jewellery, along with the amazing craftsmanship of the designers and silversmiths, and knew that the rest of Australia would feel the same.

We have now developed close links with designers in Mexico and travel there regularly to meet them and purchase pieces based on their own designs - as well as some that reflect the old classics.

Mexican sterling silver stands the test of time - in fact, jewellery crafted in the 1920's is still being worn today and is sought after by collectors worldwide.

The Jewellery

Unless stated otherwise all stones are authentic. It is normal for there to be variation between pieces of the same stone, just as it is normal for there to be occlusions and other irregularities. As long as these do not affect the functionality of the piece, they are considered part of the natural beauty of the stone.

Some designers choose to use reconstituted turquoise because it results in a much harder stone. This is an accepted practice within the jewellery industry. When a particular piece is made using reconstituted turquoise we will, to the best of our ability, note this in the item description.

We always attempt to discover the name of the stones used in our jewellery. In a few instances this is not possible. On these occasions we will note this in the item description.

The pieces of silver you see at Pieces of Silver change regularly.

We want you to visit us more than once and we know that you need an incentive to do so. To this end, we choose not to have hundreds of each design. In fact, for a large number of pieces we may have only one! This ensures that each time you come back there'll be something new to add to your collection!

But don't despair if you find that a piece you just had to have is no longer available...

...THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOMETHING SPECIAL AT PIECES OF SILVER!
